Binaural recording captures the subtle level, timing, and tonal differences that reach each ear, recreating a natural sense of direction and space when heard through headphones.

How binaural sound is recorded and reproduced through headphones — Binaural recording preserves the left-right acoustic cues that create a natural sense of direction, depth, and distance.

Why Binaural Recording Feels Immersive

With loudspeakers, sound from each channel reaches both ears and mixes with reflections from the room. Headphones deliver the left and right channels separately. A binaural microphone records the directional cues created by the shape of the head and ears, helping the listener perceive sound outside the head rather than as conventional stereo.

WHISMR Binaural Compensation Filter

Artificial ears naturally introduce a response peak around the upper midrange. W-BM1 includes a switchable compensation filter inspired by professional dummy-head systems. Turn it on when the recording may be played through speakers or a wide variety of earphones; turn it off when maximum binaural realism through suitable headphones is the priority.
